Say a prayer* - Breathe

Notes from BSF tonite:-

"Moses immediately cried out to God and God answered him. If only we knew that lesson! If we did, there would be more prayer and less murmuring among us. We would discover that the great burden of our pilgrimage is not on us but on the shoulders of our Almighty God and guide"

So much truth, yet so simple and basic. More prayer! Less grumbling. More leaving it on his shoulders. Less burden in our journey.

Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.
Bonnie Owens

I'll be missing you* - Puff Daddy feat Faith Evans and 112

Football celebration gone wrong! I thought this was super hilarious!!!!!

*It sampled the melody of 'Every Breath You Take'.

I have nothing* - Whitney Houston

This was sent to me by a Spurs fan. Well, LFC will end up with nothing this season - after all, surely one cannot expect Spurs to beat Mn Utd this weekend!!!!

*Taken from the soundtrack of the movie, 'The Bodyguard'.

Weather with you* - Crowded House

In recent times, i noticed the seemingly increase in Liverpool FC fans! So many vehicles on the road carry LFC stickers. People on the street are sporting the familiar Carlsberg jersey, mostly in Red.

So are more and more people here starting to support LFC? Or perhaps they are just LFC fans all along - but are beginning to 'resurface'!

While i dun doubt that a certain Spanish striker may be winning over many new fans to the Reds, i'm quite sure that the 'increase' in support for the LFC is because the fans are finally brave enuf to stand up and be counted.

Which is really sad.

Where were they when LFC have been struggling all these years? Especially when they were fighting for a top 4 place just to qualify for Champions League the next season? Sure, i admit that LFC have not been giving us fans a lot to be proud about in the past 5 or 10 years. or actually, even more than that. Save for the occasional Cup win.

So where are the true fans? The ones who proudly sing their hearts out at the end of a 3-1 thrashing, "You'll never walk alone"? The ones who will still proudly wear their Red strip the next day, and taking all the taunts and jeers on their chin but holding their heads up high?

Well, i'm one of them!

Yes, i confess i used to be one who was ashamed. But the turning point was some seasons ago when LFC lost embarrassingly to a relegation threatened team. The next day, i saw someone on the street wearing a LFC jersey. I was thinking that this guy probably din watch the match last night. But the more i thought about, the more i respected that guy. This was a true fan. One who is proud no matter if LFC wins or loses.

He's not a 'fair-weathered' fan - only proudly declaring so when his team is doing well. True fans will stick thru thick and thin, no matter what the weather is. I will try to be a true fan!

So to all those Newcastle fans, Middlesbrough fans etc who are still proudly donning their jerseys these days, i salute you true fans! I'm sure the number of students wearing Man Utd jerseys/t-shirts will suddenly take a dip tomorrow at college!!!

*One of their most successful single.

More than words* - Westlife

Recent exchange of text messages (edited, of course, to cut out the irrelevant bits):-

Moi: Many people love me!
F: Ohhhh, many ppl love you la? Who do u love most then?
Moi: Jesus!
F: I'm so proud you said that!

But the strange thing is that i din feel proud of meself. I actually felt hypocritical. If i truly love Jesus more than anyone, then why is it that i'm still struggling in my Christian walk? Why is it i still leave my BSF homework until the very last minute (literally - like in my car outside the building)? Why is it i still toy with some things i know are wrong? Why is it i am so reluctant to spend some time to pray at the end of the day?

If i do love Jesus, i will have to demonstrate it in my life. Let not my words be just bunkum.

I need a girl (Part 1)* - P Diddy feat. Usher and Loon

Saw this the other day near my house and snapped pic of it before the lights turned green (sori for the bad quality pic). Anyone desperate for a girl, come over and look for the missing bitch dog. You will be rewarded with a "female"!!!!

*Both Parts 1 and 2 of this became chart hits for P Diddy - a rare occurrence.

Lost* - Michael Bublé

Wow! This has been really a 'lost and found' week!!!

First, there was this presentation that i was supposed to give on Tuesday. It was about the Halls of Residences at UoR. When i was there earlier this year, one of my main tasks was to visit the rooms of my former students and take photos of them.

But it should come to no surprise that i procrastinated preparing the presentation. Until Tuesday morning itself. After all, how difficult can it be? Just post them pics onto a ppt show and present it!

Yeah, i couldn't find the pics!!!!! I tried going thru all my folders in my laptop. Then the folders in both of my external hard discs. There were not there!!!! Panic! They will turn up eventually, i was sure. I was praying like crazy too and had someone else praying together with me.

I brought both of me external hard discs to college to check thru them with a fine tooth comb. But still them photos could not be found! I returned back home to check my laptop again. No, it's not here!!!!!

Wait - i then recalled!!!! I have TWO 'My Photos' folders in my laptop! One in 'My Documents' and one in 'Desktop'. Sure enough, then photos were in the latter!!!!!

Thank God!!!!!!

Next - we had this internal audit thingy and they wanted to see the marksheets with me students' course work marks on them. Naturally, the super organised person like me would not have done so!!!! They demanded for it. They threatened to leave a 'negative comment' about me. I told them to go ahead.

but at the same time, i was searching frantically for them marks. Can't find one set. And the students are mostly away on study leave. So how? Desperate measures - Facebook!!!! And using th students themselves to try to reach the other students.

Guess what? I just found them marks!!!! Woohoo! Thank God!

But i guess the best lost and found news this week was on Sunday - when some souls that were once lost were then 'found'! Eyes that were once blind now see. The gospel was preached and people responded. Did you hear the angels in heaven rejoicing? :-)

*This song was inspired by the break-up with his former fiancée, Debbie Timuss.

Never forget* - Take That

We will never forget the 96 who died at Hillsborough.

Those were the words of the Lord Mayor of Liverpool in his speech which was part of the memorial service for the 96 Liverpool fans who died at Hillsborough 20 years ago. I was glad i managed to watch part of the service on BBC News Online - usually, such content is only available to users in the UK. And the internet connection has been really slow lately.

It was moving and touching. My heart goes out to the families of the 96 who wake up everyday feeling the loss of a loved one and the emptiness that brings.

*Sung mostly by Howard Donald, the intro is actually from Verdi's Requiem.

Above all - Lenny Leblanc

p/s - we performed this song last night. And yes, i sang out the wrong lyrics!!! But the guys all 'set me up'!!! We all started together "Above all..." and they all kept quiet. So i just blurted out "...kingdoms". Which was wrong. But at least i was the only one brave enuf to sing out loud. :-(

Stand* - Jewel

If we would enter a room where the Prime Minister or the Queen was present, would the latter rise up from their seat to greet and welcome us? Surely not!

"But this man (Jesus), after he had offered one sacrifice for sins, for ever sat down on the right hand of God"
Hebrews 10v12 (Webster's Bible Translation)

The preacher referred to the above verse today. The significance of Jesus seated forever is obviously implying that his work to offer sacrifice for sins was completed. It was done well. Nothing else needs to be done.

So does it mean that Jesus will be 'sitting down' for all eternity?

Well, no. There has been an occasion in the Bible that tells us Jesus stood up! Just before Stephen was martyred, this was what he said that he saw:-

"Look, I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."

So Jesus was standing! Do you not think that he was standing to receive the soul of Stephen. After all, Stephen was the first Christian martyr. He had the honour of having the Lord Jesus standing up and welcoming him to eternal bliss and joy in heaven.

The preacher went on the suggest that Jesus would stand up to greet all who has died and gone up to be with him in heaven. What a wonderful thought! The King of kings, the Lord of lords, the creator of the universe - but when we go to meet him in heaven, he will stand up and greet us.

Then i thought about Markus - what a wonderful moment it must have been when he went to heaven to find Jesus standing there, waiting to welcome him! Yes, Jesus himself. Not as how the cartoons tell us that it would be Peter.

And i thought of my dear father. After months of suffering and years of living as an unbeliever, how brilliant it must have been to be freed from his pain and to see Jesus, standing, welcoming him, perhaps even hugging him as he made his way into God's presence for eternity.

I had tears in my eyes.

I will experience that someday too. :-) Will you? You can, you know!

*The first track from her rather different album, 0304. This is my favourite track from that album.

Perfect* - Simple Plan

Thought from tonight's Bible Study:-

No one is perfect. Nothing is perfect. That is the reason why everything changes. Everything needs improvement and change is inevitable in order for the old to become better. If everything is perfect, then why is there a need for change?

But God never changes. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. His promises are sure. His faithfulness endures thru all generations. We can cling on to his promises for we know that he doesn't change his mind. We can depend on his love for us for we know that the way he loves us is still the same as the day when he sent his son to die for our sins.

We know he never changes because he is perfect. Or we know he is perfect because he never changes.

Whichever way you look at it, it is indeed a great source of encouragement and strength.

I swear* - All-4-One

I had forgotten about it and was happily driving when suddenly, they played a recording of it over the radio.

Oh no!!!!! It really took place!!! It can't be true, can it? I texted a fren and she confirmed that it did take place and that, and i quote, 'our nightmare has just begun'.

So he did go thru the swearing in.

I'm sure many others were swearing too...

They say that it is darkest just before the dawn. Surely the dawn must be drawing near then.

*Hit the charts in London way back in summer 1994, just as we were getting ready to come back home.

It's over* - Lisa Loeb and the Nine Stories

I saw it coming. It wasn't a surprise. As the lyrics of one of my favourite song goes, "nothing is so good, it lasts eternally".

不要因为结束而哭泣,微笑吧,为你的曾经拥有。

*The first track from her brilliant album, Tails - which IMHO is still her best!
