The best of me* - Phil Perry

So are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? (See here)

Different people react differently when faced with adversity. The past week have been a difficult one for a lot of us - the organising committee, the mooters, the coaches. It was interesting to see how some handle the pressure.

I believe that one's true colours will be revealed under difficult situations. When things are going well, it is easy for one to hold on to their masks, maintain their facade - be on their best behaviour, hypocritical as it can be. When the going gets tough, Dr. Jeckyl may turn to Hyde!

Someone whom we thought would be a good and responsible worker turns out otherwise, leaving the rest of the committee members having to cover up for her.

Someone who is supposed to be a polite goodie person ends up using language that would make a foul-mouthed gangster proud!

Someone who is supposed to be one of the top mooters end up making schoolboy mistakes.

Having said that, many others showed themselves to be a coffee bean - that when things are at their worst, they get better and change the situation around them. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest they elevate to another level.

Most of the student committee members showed that. The finalists showed their ability when pushed to the edge - only for them to not only stand firm but push back! These individuals did us all proud and displayed their best.

Well done!

The only regret is that i realised i'm not a coffee bean.

*This is the jazz remake of David Foster's pop song.
